He will want to enjoy himself for a few days after that World Cup win
against Argentina, but I could soon see Toni Kroos fitting in well at
Real Madrid – although 30million euros is a lot of money for someone who
is out of contract in one year.
But I think Bayern will feel it if he goes. You could see now how
important he is, and he had another busy game in the World Cup final. He
is able to play in offensive midfield and defensive midfield as well –
and you saw his qualities against Brazil in the semi-final.
The 24-year-old was once described as “the most naturally gifted
player I’ve seen since Karl-Heinz Rummenigge” by Bayern Munich’s former
youth director Werner Kern.
He is very flexible and he has many strengths. He is smart, he keeps
the ball great, he has a good eye for the situation and great technique.
Kroos can play in every team. If there is a loser in this deal, it
would be Bayern.
They would lose a top player, a world champion who is difficult to
replace. Thiago will come back after his long injury, yes. But Toni
Kroos might be one of those players whose importance you only realise
once he’s gone.
