Chelsea Looking to Offload Spanish Flop

Chelsea spent a massive amount of capital to lure Fernando Torres to Stamford Bridge from Liverpool in 2011, but since his arrival in London he has failed to live up to the lofty expectations of the club, fans and owner Roman Abramovich.

There were moments when it looked like the Torres of old was scratching the surface, but for the majority of his time with the Blues he has just not produced.

During his time at Anfield, Torres experienced the greatest purple patch of his career scoring 81 goals in 142 overall appearances and 65 in 102 Premier League outings.

His time in Chelsea has seen his overall tally of 45 from 172 and only 20 in 110 in the Premier League.

There is no real way to blame it on his supporting cast as Chelsea have had some of the highest assist producers in the league during his time in London, the only real red flag could be that he just never settled with such a high rate of managerial turnover.

However, most other players seemed to perform just as always no matter whom was their boss.

Reports now are suggesting that Chelsea once again are looking to be rid of the 30-year-old front man that despite showing some signs of improvement over the last two campaigns with a combined 33 goals, he just is not producing what the Blues need to get back to the top of the league.

According to the press, Torres is set to be sent back to Atletico Madrid, his home as a youth and breakthrough first team player, for a cut price fee of only £13 million. With the two signings of Diego Costa and Filipe Luis coming from Atletico, it seems only fair that the Spanish champions have a chance to sign Torres for a bit under market value.
